Located in the Langoedoc region of South West France close to the Pyrenean Mountains on the Spanish Border it is situated approx half way between Carcassone and Perpignan on the D117, the house is set in a garden of 1300 sq metres which is mainly grass and patio allowing plenty of play area for children and is in a secluded spot which is not overlooked about 5 mins walk from the village of Lapradelle which has two small shops that sell most things a quiet bar and a small restaurant.
The accommodation can sleep up to 9 people and consists of 3 bedrooms one with a single and double bed. Two with double beds and a lounge with a folding double sofa bed. There is also an ample kitchen diner with a 6 seater table and a bathroom with bath and shower over (for 9 people it really needs a second bathroom which is planned for the future).
Outside there is a patio area with 6 seat table and a mobile BBQ plus ample parking for 4/5 cars and a breathtaking view of the mountains and Puilaurens castle from the garden, which can be reached on foot (if you are fit as it is a good climb) or by car (5mins). ![]()
The nearest supermarkets can be found either at St Paul de Fenouille in the direction of Perpignan (15mins drive) or through the Gorge to Quillan (20 mins drive) which is a lively little market town with lots of shops and restaurants and cafes plus weekly market (Tuesday) and in the summer season the organise lots of events at the weekends. There is also a “Hippy market” every Sunday at nearby Esperazza where you can buy lots of local home grown organic produce and watch the impromptu street entertainment (have even seen a travelling English troup or Morris dancers there once).
Further a field there is the impressive city of Carcassone (45 mins by car) www.carcassonneinfo.com a vibrant town centre for shopping and dining or a stroll along the Canal Du Midi but not to be missed is the ancient walled city which is supposedly the most complete in the whole of Europe and not only has the Castle standing on a hill by te river but plenty of quaint little shops, restaurants and a museum inside. Well worth a day trip. In the opposite direction you can head for Perpignan (50 mins drive) which is a busy town and the many mediteranean seaside resorts nearby like the modern Canet Plage, or old fishing communities such as Couillore near the Spanish border.
Fancy the mountains ? There is so much to do, skiing in the winter a Les Angles (40 mins drive), or walking and climbing in the summer. In 90 mins you can be in the principalty of Andorra for skiing or tax free shopping. Fancy a trip to Barcelona in Spain or the beautiful national Park of the Carmargue to see the flamhngo and bulls which are only a few hours drive from the house. There is so much to see and do in the region you’ll need more than one holiday to take it all in.
